Job Summary

A Safety Director with Driver Recruiting experience is needed for a full-time, on-site direct hire opportunity with an established trucking and logistics organization in Chattanooga, TN. This management-level role is ideal for a hands-on transportation safety leader who understands fleet operations, DOT and FMCSA compliance, driver accountability, and the importance of hiring qualified CDL drivers.

This is a key leadership opportunity with direct influence on safety performance, regulatory compliance, driver quality, risk management, and overall operations. The Safety Director will work closely with leadership and operations teams in a visible role that supports driver success, employee retention, and continuous improvement across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead company safety programs, policies, procedures, training, and driver education initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, Hours of Service, ELD, drug and alcohol testing, MVR, CSA, and other transportation safety requirements.
- Maintain driver qualification files, safety records, compliance documentation, and personnel records with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Manage accident and incident investigations, reporting, corrective actions, and follow-up coaching.
- Monitor driver performance, address safety or compliance concerns, and hold drivers and employees accountable to company standards.
- Support hiring, screening, interviewing, onboarding, and orientation for CDL drivers and other employees.

Compensation and Benefits

- Salary range: $62,000 to $85,000 per year.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Oversee safety, compliance, risk management, and driver performance for a trucking and logistics operation.
- Manage DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, CSA, Hours of Service, ELD, MVR, and drug and alcohol testing compliance.
- Lead accident investigations, safety training, driver coaching, corrective actions, and regulatory documentation.
- Assist with driver hiring, qualification, onboarding, orientation, and workforce planning.

- Trucking or transportation industry experience is required.
- Previous safety leadership experience in trucking, transportation, fleet operations, logistics, or a related environment is required.
- Strong working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations is required.
- Experience maintaining driver qualification files and safety compliance documentation.
- Strong interviewing, screening, and hiring skills.
- Ability to evaluate driver qualifications and ensure regulatory requirements are met prior to hire.
- Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail, follow-through, and documentation accuracy.
- Comfortable holding drivers and employees accountable to safety, compliance, and performance standards.
- Hands-on leadership style with the flexibility to support multiple areas of the business.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience hiring and qualifying CDL drivers.
- Experience improving CSA scores, safety performance, driver retention, and compliance processes.
- Background supporting onboarding, new-hire orientation, and driver training programs.
- Experience working closely with operations leadership on staffing needs and workforce planning.
