Job Summary

A growing commercial construction company in Kent, WA is seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant for a direct hire opportunity. This role supports the financial management of multiple construction projects and works closely with Project Managers, Operations, and accounting leadership to ensure accurate job costing, billing, reporting, and contract administration.

Key Responsibilities

- Monitor project budgets, costs, job cost records, and financial performance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare and process owner billings, including progress billings and AIA billing documentation.
- Review subcontractor invoices, pay applications, change orders, retainage, lien waivers, and project contract documentation.
- Partner with Project Managers on forecasting, cost-to-complete reporting, budget analysis, and project financial reconciliations.
- Support month-end close activities, journal entries, account reconciliations, audits, and work-in-progress reporting.
- Maintain accurate project accounting records and help ensure compliance with company policies, contract terms, and accounting standards.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Manage project accounting functions for multiple commercial construction projects.
- Track job costs, budgets, change orders, retainage, and project financial performance.
- Prepare construction billing, including AIA billing and progress billings.
- Support WIP reporting, month-end close, reconciliations, and project financial analysis.

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
- 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in commercial construction or another project-based industry.
- Strong understanding of job costing, project accounting, construction billing, and contract administration.
- Experience reviewing subcontractor invoices, pay applications, lien waivers, and supporting project documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting or ERP systems such as Viewpoint, Sage, Foundation, CMiC, or similar platforms.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and deadline-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, collaborative construction environment.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in commercial construction accounting.
- Hands-on experience with AIA billing, WIP reporting, retainage tracking, and cost-to-complete reporting.
- Familiarity with construction ERP platforms such as Viewpoint, Sage, Foundation, CMiC, or similar systems.
- Prior experience supporting Project Managers with forecasting, budget analysis, and project closeout.
