Job Summary
We are seeking a Payroll & Benefits Administrator for a direct hire opportunity in Santa Fe Springs, CA. This role is ideal for an experienced payroll professional who is comfortable managing weekly union payroll for a large, multi-state construction workforce of up to 300+ employees nationwide.
The Payroll & Benefits Administrator will oversee accurate and timely payroll processing, maintain employee records, support benefits administration, and assist with onboarding. This is a high-impact role within a fast-paced construction environment where accuracy, confidentiality, responsiveness, and strong follow-through are essential.

Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly payroll for union and non-union employees, including wages, deductions, commissions, bonuses, tax withholdings, direct deposits, and paycheck records.
- Review, verify, and audit timesheets, hours worked, wage calculations, pay adjustments, and payroll discrepancies in the HR and payroll system.
- Maintain accurate employee payroll and HR records, including exemptions, transfers, resignations, paid time off balances, I-9s, medical records, and personnel files.
- Support onboarding for new hires, including entering new employee information into the HRIS and assigning employees in the time and labor module.
- Prepare payroll transfers, month-end payroll and benefits reports, headcount summaries, union dues, and union medical, dental, and vision invoices.
- Respond to employee, supervisor, manager, and applicant questions related to payroll, benefits eligibility, personnel policies, salaries, and HR processes.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $60,000 to $70,000 per year.
- Job type: Direct hire.
- Location: Santa Fe Springs, CA.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Must be flexible and open to overtime as needed.

Required Qualifications and Skills
- Manage weekly payroll processing for up to 300+ employees nationwide.
- Audit payroll data, timesheets, pay adjustments, and wage calculations for accuracy.
- Support employee onboarding, HRIS updates, payroll records, and benefits administration.
- Prepare payroll reports, union dues, benefits invoices, and month-end summaries.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 3+ years of experience working with payroll systems and performing payroll processing, reporting, analysis, and related payroll functions.
- Experience with Paylocity software required.
- Background or basic knowledge of accounting required.
- Experience processing union payroll, weekly payroll, and multi-employee payroll in a construction, skilled trades, or similar field environment strongly desired.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify, research, and resolve payroll discrepancies.
- Ability to maintain confidential employee information and accurate HR records.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to respond professionally to employee and management payroll and benefits questions.
- Dependable attendance, strong organizational skills, and the ability to meet payroll deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to safe work habits and professional workplace conduct.
Preferred Qualifications
- HR or payroll certification from the American Payroll Association, SHRM, or HRCI preferred.
- Prior experience supporting payroll and benefits for union employees in the construction, plumbing, pipefitting, skilled trades, or field services industries preferred.
- Experience processing union dues and union medical, dental, and vision invoices preferred.
