Job Summary

We are seeking a flexible and customer-focused Mail Room Center Clerk for a contract-to-hire opportunity supporting professional client sites throughout the Bay Area, including downtown San Francisco and San Rafael. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in delivering excellent service, and can confidently adapt to different office, corporate, warehouse, legal, retail, and customer-facing environments.

The Mail Room Center Clerk will support a range of onsite business services, including mail, shipping and receiving, copy and production center support, reception, hospitality, and conference room setup. This is a great opportunity for a dependable administrative and clerical professional who enjoys being part of a service-driven team while also being comfortable working independently when needed.

This position offers exposure to multiple professional environments, hands-on training, supportive leadership, and the potential to convert to a permanent role after meeting required hours. Successful candidates will be organized, proactive, service-minded, and comfortable with local travel, changing assignments, and a fast-paced workday.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide daily onsite support for mail services, shipping and receiving, copy and production center tasks, reception coverage, hospitality support, and conference room setups.
- Travel to assigned customer locations and adapt quickly to different site procedures, teams, customer expectations, and business environments.
- Deliver professional customer service by responding to end-user needs, resolving routine issues, and escalating concerns when appropriate.
- Support daily operations at managed service accounts, including coverage for absences, vacations, training, implementations, and service expansions.
- Assist with process compliance, site procedure documentation, cross-training, and maintaining service quality standards.
- Perform physical and operational tasks that may include standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, moving supplies, and supporting office or warehouse service areas.

Compensation and Benefits

- Pay: $20.00 to $21.00 per hour, depending on experience. 
- Job type: Contract/temporary with potential for temp-to-perm conversion.
- Typical schedule: Most assignments are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Schedule flexibility is required, as some sites may open as early as 6:00 AM, close at 7:00 PM or later, or have weekend coverage needs.
- Work locations may vary by day and may include downtown San Francisco, San Rafael, and other assigned customer sites within the operational area.
- Free parking is not available at most San Francisco locations. Public transportation is commonly used.
- Free parking is available at the San Rafael location.
- Mileage and parking reimbursement may be available according to policy. Mileage reimbursement begins after the first 15 miles each way of the commute.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Support onsite mail, shipping and receiving, copy center, reception, hospitality, and conference room service operations.
- Travel between customer sites and provide coverage where business needs require.
- Deliver consistent customer service in varied professional environments.
- Follow site procedures, document information accurately, and support service quality expectations.

- High school diploma required.
- Minimum of 12 months of related work experience required.
- 3 to 5 years of administrative, clerical, mailroom, customer service, facilities, office services, or related experience preferred based on role level.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with clients, end users, and team members.
- Ability to work independently at single-person sites or collaboratively as part of a larger onsite team.
- Flexibility to be rerouted to different locations before or during a shift based on business needs.
- Ability to travel locally and cover accounts across a broad geographic area, potentially 40 to 50 miles.
- Valid, violation-free driver’s license, reliable transportation, and minimum auto insurance coverage may be required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, stretch, climb, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- Comfortable pushing or pulling equipment on wheels, which may weigh up to 400 pounds, when needed for movement or repairs.
- Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft applications, file folder management, and navigating network production folders.
- Ability to maintain and submit monthly expenses accurately and on time with proper coding.
- Basic math skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to understand written and verbal instructions and translate them into appropriate site actions.
- Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and ability to troubleshoot and coordinate issue resolution.
- Ability to learn quickly, take notes, ask questions, retain training, and take initiative.
- Commitment to quality, accuracy, urgency, and consistent follow-through.

Preferred Qualifications

- Post-high school education is encouraged and preferred.
- Prior experience in a mailroom, office services, facilities support, print production, reception, shipping and receiving, or managed services environment.
- Experience supporting multiple customer locations or working in a floating, field-based, or coverage support role.
- Familiarity with professional services environments such as law firms, corporate offices, retail headquarters, warehouses, or client service centers.
- Experience assisting with onboarding, cross-training, procedure guides, process improvement, or service compliance.
