Job Summary

A respected legal services team in Melbourne, FL is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to provide direct support to attorneys handling employment-related defense litigation before administrative agencies and state and federal courts. This direct hire opportunity is ideal for a detail-oriented legal professional with strong litigation support experience, excellent document skills, and the ability to keep attorneys, clients, deadlines, and filings organized.

The Legal Assistant will be an important part of a busy defense litigation practice, supporting attorneys through discovery, hearings, arbitrations, mediations, and trial preparation.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide administrative and litigation support to attorneys handling employment defense matters in state and federal courts.
- Manage correspondence, phone calls, emails, client communications, court clerk communications, calendars, deadlines, and appointment follow-up.
- Assist with litigation discovery, hearing preparation, arbitration preparation, trial preparation, bates numbering, redactions, and electronic court filings.
- Format, proofread, revise, and finalize legal documents for accuracy, completeness, grammar, spelling, and filing readiness.
- Maintain organized physical and electronic files, coordinate meetings, depositions, mediations, and arbitrations, and support conflict check and client intake processes.
- Process monthly expense reports and assist with time entry review, revision, and entry as requested.

Compensation and Benefits

- Salary range: $65,000 to $75,000 per year.
- Direct hire opportunity.
- Location: Melbourne, FL 32940.
- Hybrid schedule flexibility was noted, with 2 to 3 days per week at home. Position is based in Melbourne, FL.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Support attorneys through all phases of employment-related defense litigation.
- Assist with discovery, e-filing, document preparation, redactions, bates numbering, and court filings.
- Manage calendars, deadlines, correspondence, client communications, and litigation-related scheduling.
- Maintain organized legal files and support conflict checks, client intake, expense reporting, and time entry processes.

- Minimum of 4 years of solid defense litigation experience required.
- Knowledge of Florida Rules of Civil Procedure and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure required.
- Ability to type at least 65 WPM required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Experience with time entry, e-filing, and electronic document management systems preferred.
- Strong proofreading, formatting, writing, grammar, and document accuracy skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with attorneys, clients, court personnel, and vendors.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, manage competing deadlines, and maintain a professional, positive, can-do attitude.
- Strong organizational skills, dependability, initiative, flexibility, resiliency, and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

- Associate or bachelor’s degree.
- Prior experience supporting employment-related defense litigation.
- Experience with electronic document management systems.
- Prior experience coordinating depositions, mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and trial preparation.
