We are seeking an experienced Import Coordinator for a temp-to-hire opportunity with a global logistics and supply chain operation in the Gardena/Carson, CA area. This role supports the movement of ocean and air import shipments through key West Coast gateways, including the Los Angeles/Long Beach ports and LAX.
The Import Coordinator will manage import shipments from origin to final U.S. destination, ensuring documentation, transportation coordination, vendor processing, and customer communication are handled accurately and on time. Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate ocean and air import shipments from foreign origin points to U.S. destinations, managing each shipment from start to finish.
- Receive, review, and process import documentation, including bills of lading, in-bond documents, arrival notices, delivery orders, freight releases, and agency documents.
- Track and trace FCL and LCL cargo shipments while maintaining timely communication with customers, carriers, freight forwarders, overseas offices, trucking companies, and vendors.
- Arrange inland transportation and door deliveries with appropriate partners to support efficient cargo movement.
- Process vendor invoices and payables accurately and on time to meet month-end deadlines.
- Maintain complete import documentation records and support compliance with domestic, foreign, and ISO9001 quality requirements.
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay: $23 to $26 per hour.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Employment type: Temp-to-hire.
- Occasional overtime may be required based on business needs.
- Background check is required due to the nature of the business.
- Manage import shipment files from opening through final delivery.
- Coordinate ocean and air import documentation, tracking, and transportation arrangements.
- Communicate with clients, importers, forwarders, carriers, overseas offices, trucking companies, and vendors.
- Process vendor invoices and support month-end payable deadlines.
- 2 or more years of experience processing import shipments preferred.
- Experience using at least one of the following systems: CargoWise, Descartes NetCHB, or Syrinx TradeTech.
- Working knowledge of import documentation such as VOCC bills of lading, NVOCC or house bills of lading, in-bond documents, arrival notices, delivery orders, freight releases, USCBP documents, and related agency paperwork.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organization, critical thinking, follow-up, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize deadlines, and work independently or as part of a team.
- High-caliber customer service mindset with a professional and timely communication style.
- Willingness to cross-train and support other departments as needed.
- Ability to support ISO9001 quality system requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience coordinating both ocean and air imports.
- Familiarity with FCL and LCL cargo tracking and tracing.
- Experience working with shipments moving through the Los Angeles/Long Beach ports or LAX.
- Experience with multiple logistics systems, including CargoWise, Descartes NetCHB, and Syrinx TradeTech.
- Prior experience in freight forwarding, customs support, warehousing, transportation, or distribution environments.
