Job Summary
We are seeking a Director of Construction Business Development in Arlington, VA with a commercial construction organization focused on healthcare, federal, mission critical, and additional verticals. This role is ideal for a strategic, relationship-driven construction professional who knows how to identify new opportunities, build trusted client partnerships, and support long-term regional growth.
The Director of Business Development will lead regional business development strategy, pursue new client and market opportunities, and help secure construction projects aligned with company goals, capabilities, and culture. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with regional leadership, technical teams, marketing partners, clients, owners, designers, and community influencers.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute regional business development strategies to secure new clients, maintain existing relationships, and achieve procurement and revenue goals.
- Identify new client, market, and project opportunities that align with company objectives, capabilities, and culture.
- Build and maintain relationships with owners, designers, teaming partners, community organizations, and key market influencers.
- Lead or support pursuit planning, including approval-to-pursue activities, project pursuit strategies, client meetings, proposal messaging, presentations, and interview preparation.
- Partner with regional leaders, marketing teams, and technical staff to develop strategic plans, proposals, scopes of work, and client-focused pursuit materials.
- Track business development activity, monitor market trends, support quality control for business development processes, and mentor doer-seller team members as needed.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or an equivalent field, or related experience substituted on a one-to-one basis.
10- 15 years of commercial construction industry experience.
Expert knowledge of the construction industry, including client development, project pursuit strategy, and market positioning.
Experience with business planning, strategic planning, and revenue growth initiatives.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation, proposal messaging, and client-facing communication.
Excellent planning, organization, relationship-building, and networking skills.
Strong strategic thinking, business judgment, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to collaborate with leadership, marketing, operations, technical staff, clients, owners, designers, and teaming partners.
Valid driver’s license required for local and occasional domestic travel.
Ability to participate fully in meetings, video conferences, phone calls, and business development events.
Ability to sit, stand, bend, squat, use hands for computer work, and occasionally lift, pull, or move up to 25 lbs.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary Range: $130,000 to $160,000 per year.
- Location: Arlington, VA.
- Occasional travel is required, primarily within the metropolitan area, with some domestic travel as needed.

- Existing relationships with designers, owners, and decision-makers in Higher Education, Healthcare, and/or Mission Critical construction markets.
- Established professional network within the Arlington, Northern Virginia, Washington DC, or broader regional construction community.
- Experience leading pursuit strategy, red team reviews, mock panel reviews, client interviews, and major construction proposal efforts.
- Experience mentoring doer-seller professionals or supporting business development training for technical teams.
