Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Buyer II for a contract/temporary opportunity in Livermore, CA, supporting purchasing, procurement, and materials planning within a manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented procurement professional who enjoys working cross-functionally with production, planning, quality, finance, shipping and receiving, IT, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
The Buyer II will source and purchase raw materials, packaging components, equipment, parts, and supplies needed to support production schedules and business operations. This opportunity offers a collaborative, team-focused environment where strong communication, supplier relationship management, and sound purchasing decisions directly support manufacturing performance, cost control, and on-time delivery.

Key Responsibilities
- Source suppliers, support commodity purchasing strategies, administer supply agreements, and negotiate pricing and terms to reduce cost and improve supplier performance.
- Review MRP requirements weekly, create and expedite purchase orders, and ensure materials meet quality, quantity, cost, and delivery requirements.
- Coordinate with production planning, inventory control, quality, shipping and receiving, finance, IT, and other departments to prevent delays and support manufacturing schedules.
- Communicate BOM changes, specification sheets, packing lists, SDSs, CoAs, inventory reports, and related documentation to internal teams.
- Work with suppliers, shipping companies, S&R, and QC teams to resolve missing documentation, receiving issues, out-of-specification materials, and other non-conformances.
- Monitor manufacturing reports, adjust raw material and packaging component orders as needed, and support purchasing closeout processes.

Required Qualifications and Skills
- Manage purchasing activities for raw materials, packaging components, equipment, parts, and supplies.
- Evaluate MRP demand, issue purchase orders, expedite materials, and support production schedule requirements.
- Negotiate with vendors and maintain supplier relationships to support cost, quality, and delivery goals.
- Coordinate purchasing documentation and resolve material, receiving, and compliance-related issues.
- 3-5+ years of procurement and planning experience required, with 6-10 years of related experience strongly aligned with the role level.
- Experience with purchasing, scheduling techniques, materials requirements planning, inventory management, risk management, and supplier relationship management.
- Strong ERP system knowledge in a manufacturing environment, preferably Oracle or SAP.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Working knowledge of cGMP practices and manufacturing process flow.
- Ability to read, analyze, and communicate purchasing documents, inventory reports, specifications, packing lists, SDSs, CoAs, and related materials documentation.
- Strong analytical thinking, math, statistics, reading comprehension, writing, and supply chain fundamentals.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organization, planning, and project management skills.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, teamwork, collaboration, conflict management, integrity, and ethics.
- Self-motivated professional with the ability to work independently while managing multiple assignments in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- Previous purchasing and planning experience in cosmetic, food, or pharmaceutical manufacturing preferred.
- Experience with Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning software preferred.
- Association memberships or procurement, supply chain, or purchasing certifications are a plus.
