Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Manager for a temp-to-hire opportunity in Buffalo, NY. The Accounts Payable Manager will oversee daily AP activity, vendor payments, compliance requirements, reconciliations, and internal controls. Key Responsibilities

- Manage daily accounts payable operations, including invoice processing, employee reimbursements, payment approvals, and check runs.
- Supervise, train, coach, and evaluate AP staff to support accuracy, accountability, and professional development.
- Review and approve AP batches, reconciliations, journal entries, vendor records, and required documentation.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, grant requirements, IRS regulations, 1099 reporting, GAAP, and nonprofit accounting standards.
- Maintain strong internal controls, identify process improvements, and support system enhancements to increase efficiency and reduce risk.
- Oversee vendor relationships, resolve payment discrepancies, and ensure timely, accurate communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Compensation and Benefits

- Salary: $75,000 to $80,000 per year.
- Schedule: 35 hours per week.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Manage high-volume accounts payable operations in a nonprofit accounting environment.
- Lead AP staff, support training, and oversee day-to-day team performance.
- Review AP batches, reconciliations, journal entries, vendor files, and compliance documentation.
- Support process improvements, internal controls, fraud prevention, and accounting system optimization.

- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of accounts payable experience.
- 2 to 4 years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of AP processes, GAAP, nonprofit accounting, internal controls, and compliance requirements.
- Experience with ERP or accounting systems, with Intacct experience strongly relevant.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accurate financial data management.
- Familiarity with IRS reporting requirements, including 1099 processing.
- Excellent organizational, communication, problem-solving, and vendor relationship management skills.
- Ability to manage deadlines, prioritize work, and maintain accuracy in a high-volume environment.
- Ability to lift up to 10 pounds as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

- Nonprofit accounting experience.
- Grant compliance experience.
- Experience with Sage Intacct.
