About the Role
The Independence Program Advisor plays a vital role in supporting adults as they work toward successful, independent living within the community. This position is ideal for a compassionate, organized, and self-directed professional who is motivated by meaningful public service and consumer-driven care.
Working in close partnership with healthcare providers, Veterans’ resources, and community-based organizations, the Advisor empowers participants by ensuring they have access to critical services, financial guidance, and individualized support plans that improve quality of life and promote autonomy.
This role maintains a caseload of approximately 45 active consumers and serves as a trusted guide through assessment, planning, service coordination, and ongoing advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct functional needs assessments to determine appropriate services and resources
Develop, implement, and document individualized support and spending plans
Assist consumers with budgeting, financial tracking, and purchasing items essential for independent living
Support consumers in hiring, training, supervising, and terminating support staff
Ensure consumers or their representatives maintain full decision-making authority
Collaborate closely with healthcare partners, service providers, and community organizations
Maintain accurate documentation and compliance with program and regulatory standards
Promote Independent Living philosophy and consumer-centered methodologies
Manage multiple priorities while meeting program deadlines and maintaining service quality

Qualified candidates will meet one or more of the following:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Minimum of two years of experience working with individuals with disabilities, older adults, Veterans, or similar service populations
An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience

Preferred Knowledge & Skills

Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Rehabilitation Act, and Fair Housing Act
Experience managing and maintaining budgets
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and deadlines
Ability to work independently with sound judgment and professionalism
Familiarity with Independent Living philosophy and community-based services
Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and standard computer applications
Reliable transportation and valid California Driver’s License/state ID (insurance required if applicable)
Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred
