About the Role
The Veteran Independence Program Advisor works closely with healthcare partners, military support organizations, and community-based agencies to help adults—particularly veterans—achieve and maintain independent living. The advisor ensures consumers have access to essential services, supports, and resources that improve overall quality of life.
This role manages a minimum caseload of 25 active consumers, conducts functional needs assessments, and develops individualized support and spending plans. The advisor assists consumers with budgeting, selecting services, and purchasing items necessary for independent living.
Key Responsibilities
Consumer Support & Case Management
Conduct intake meetings and functional needs assessments.
Develop, implement, and document individualized support and spending plans.
Assist consumers with hiring, training, supervising, and terminating support staff while ensuring consumer-led decision-making.
Support consumers in managing budgets and selecting appropriate services or items needed for independent living.
Field & Outreach Work
Travel up to 60% of the time to conduct in-person visits, meetings, consumer support, and outreach activities.
Maintain ongoing communication with healthcare partners and community resources regarding consumer progress and needs.
Collaborate with military and civilian support organizations.
Documentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate, timely documentation in agency databases.
Ensure confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and program standards.
Submit progress reports, assessments, and required forms within deadlines.
Fiscal & Administrative Support
Work with fiscal management services to review timesheets, monitor payroll, and track consumer expenditures.
Ensure services and spending remain within approved plan limits.
Coordinate with leadership and billing staff to ensure administrative and assessment fees are collected.
Maintain standard office hours but remain flexible based on consumer and program needs.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Minimum 2 years of experience working with:
Veterans
Individuals with disabilities
Older adults
Social services or related support populations
Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently with sound judgment.
Knowledge of accessibility regulations, disability services, and/or public housing rules.
Experience with budgeting, financial tracking, or case management.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and general computer systems.
Reliable transportation; valid driver’s license if required for travel.
Preferred
Bilingual English/Spanish
Experience working within community-based or veteran-serving organizations
Familiarity with independent living programs or VA systems
