A well-established and growing public accounting firm in the Central Valley is seeking an experienced Tax Reviewer to join its tax team. This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional who enjoys reviewing complex returns, mentoring staff, and providing strategic tax guidance to a diverse client base. Key Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will have strong technical tax expertise, public accounting experience, and an active CPA license.
Qualifications
Required:
- Active CPA License
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Taxation, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of public accounting tax experience
- Significant experience reviewing:
* Individual (1040)
* Partnership (1065)
* Corporate (1120)
* S Corporation (1120-S) returns
- Strong knowledge of Federal and California tax regulations
- Proficiency with tax software and tax research tools
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365 skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred:
- 7+ years of public accounting experience
- Experience serving closely held businesses, real estate, agricultural, and high-net-worth clients
- Tax planning and consulting experience
- Prior leadership, mentoring, or review experience

Work Environment
Position based in either Fresno or Visalia
Potential hybrid flexibility based on performance and firm policy
Additional hours may be required during tax season and peak filing periods
Tax Return Review:
- Review complex federal and state tax returns, including:
* Individual (1040)
* Partnership (1065)
* Corporate (1120)
* S Corporation (1120-S)
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with current tax laws and regulations
- Review supporting workpapers and documentation
- Identify tax-saving opportunities and planning recommendations
- Verify proper tax treatment of income, deductions, credits, basis calculations, and related tax matters
Technical Tax Research & Planning
- Research federal and California tax issues
- Provide guidance and technical support to staff and clients
- Stay current on tax law changes and industry developments
- Collaborate with management on complex tax matters and planning strategies
Client Service
- Communicate review comments and recommendations professionally
- Participate in client meetings as needed
- Assist with responses to IRS and state tax notices
- Build and maintain strong client relationships
Staff Mentorship & Development
- Coach and mentor tax preparers and staff accountants
- Review work product and provide constructive feedback
- Support training and ongoing development initiatives
- Help improve efficiency and consistency within the tax department
Quality Control
- Maintain high standards for tax return quality and compliance
- Ensure engagement deadlines are met
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and workflow efficiencies
- Support firm-wide quality assurance initiatives
