Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Tax Preparer for a direct hire, on-site opportunity in the Thousand Oaks, CA area. This role is ideal for a tax professional who enjoys year-round tax, accounting, and client service work, not just seasonal tax preparation.
This is a small, established, and growing professional services office with a collaborative team environment, supportive leadership, and a strong focus on mentorship and professional development. The firm serves a diverse client base and provides income tax preparation, bookkeeping, accounting support, business consulting, forensic accounting support, and financial reporting services.
The workload is balanced between approximately 50% tax services and 50% bookkeeping, accounting, consulting, and related client projects. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare individual and business tax returns accurately and in compliance with applicable tax regulations.
- Review client financial records, tax documents, schedules, and supporting information for completeness and accuracy.
- Prepare governmental filings, tax reports, and related client documentation.
- Communicate professionally with clients regarding tax matters, missing information, planning items, and documentation requests.
- Assist with tax planning, year-end projections, and period-end accounting close procedures.
- Maintain organized electronic client files and support additional accounting, bookkeeping, consulting, and special projects as needed.
Compensation and Benefits

- Compensation: $40 to $45.00 per hour.

Required Qualifications and Skills
- Prepare individual and business tax returns for a diverse client base.
- Support bookkeeping, accounting close, tax planning, and related client service projects.
- Review financial information and tax documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Communicate with clients and internal team members to manage deadlines, priorities, and deliverables.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of tax preparation experience required.
- Strong knowledge of individual and business taxation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Ability to work effectively in a paperless, technology-driven office environment.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks, Microsoft Office, and tax preparation software preferred.
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles, GAAP, and fundamental tax concepts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple client assignments and deadlines.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, follow-through, and problem-solving ability.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Public Accountant or Enrolled Agent designation preferred.
- Experience with Lacerte tax software preferred.
- Experience supporting bookkeeping, accounting close procedures, business consulting, forensic accounting matters, or financial reporting services is a plus.
- Desire to learn, develop professionally, and grow with a stable, expanding firm.
