This is a fantastic opportunity for a detail-oriented tax professional to make a real impact by leading compliance efforts across multiple states while contributing to process improvements and team development.
Position Overview
The Indirect Tax Compliance Specialist will take ownership of sales and use tax, excise tax, and 1099 reporting across various jurisdictions. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both compliance and collaboration, and who can explain complex tax matters clearly to internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the accurate and timely filing of sales and use tax, excise tax, and 1099 reports across multiple states.
Track and meet all federal, state, and local tax deadlines.
Clearly communicate tax regulations and requirements to non-tax team members.
Provide internal guidance on compliance standards and best practices.
Conduct and support team training sessions on indirect tax topics.
Create and maintain tax training materials to support onboarding and development.
Keep sales tax rates and tax compliance systems up to date using internal software.
Stay informed of tax law changes and update processes accordingly.
Recommend and implement process improvements to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
Act as the main point of contact with external tax advisors and auditors.
Share updates and tax insights to foster team learning and compliance awareness.
Offer tax input on business changes including transactions, acquisitions, and expansion plans.
Support international tax planning, including research and estimated tax forecasts.
Prepare tax documentation and schedules to support audits.
Respond to federal, state, and local tax notices and resolve issues promptly.
What We’re Looking For
Solid knowledge of indirect tax (sales/use, excise, 1099).
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills, especially when explaining technical tax matters.
Experience with multi-state tax compliance.
A collaborative mindset and a proactive approach to process improvement.
Experience in international tax is a plus but not required.
