We are seeking a highly skilled Supply Chain Specialist to support our client's overall operational performance by optimizing costs, ensuring reliable product availability, and meeting customer requirements for quality, cost, and delivery. This role plays a key part in driving cost-saving initiatives, managing suppliers, mitigating risks, and executing effective planning strategies.
The ideal candidate is experienced in machining or manufacturing environments, excels at supplier management and procurement, and has a strong understanding of machining processes and material requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Manage assigned suppliers and commodities to ensure on-time delivery, recommending solutions and alternative supply options as needed.
Track, evaluate, and report supplier performance, including quality, lead times, capacity, and delivery metrics.
Obtain quotes and negotiate pricing, delivery, and terms with suppliers.
Plan and place purchase orders for materials and services based on MRP, forecasts, production schedules, or authorized purchase requests.
Drive purchasing decisions that optimize price discounts and inventory efficiency, including use of blanket orders, bulk purchases, and other levers.
Resolve and communicate purchase order issues, invoice discrepancies, returns, and quality problems in a timely manner.
Collaborate with internal teams and/or customers to forecast product requirements and prevent obsolescence.
Participate in continuous improvement and lean initiatives.
Facilitate early supplier involvement for complex or highly technical new product designs to enhance quality and manufacturability.
Perform other related duties that contribute to overall supply chain success.
Education, Experience & Qualifications
Required
5+ years of experience in procurement, supply chain, or purchasing within machining, manufacturing, or mechanical environments.
Strong understanding of machining processes (CNC, milling, turning, grinding) and material properties.
Experience working with machining suppliers, foundries, or metal fabrication vendors.
Ability to read engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications for supplier compliance.
Knowledge of cost drivers in machining, tooling, and raw materials.
Experience with ERP/MRP systems (SAP) for procurement and inventory management.
Preferred
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
ASCM certifications such as CSCP, CPIM, or Supply Chain Procurement Certificate.
Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent continuous improvement certification.
