We are seeking a Staff Accountant for a temp-to-hire opportunity in Cypress, CA with a professional organization in the real estate, property management, and project services space. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with 3 to 5 years of experience who enjoys a mix of payroll support, time and expense processing, billing, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and reporting.
The Staff Accountant will report directly to senior financial leadership and play an important role in supporting accurate semi-monthly payroll, client billing, and monthly accounting close activities. Key Responsibilities
- Review employee timesheets and expense reports for accuracy, completeness, and required management approvals.
- Prepare time and expense uploads in Excel and support semi-monthly payroll processing through automated payroll systems.
- Set up projects in the time and expense system and ensure employee project coding is accurate.
- Review billable labor, expenses, consultant costs, and other client charges before uploading into the accounts receivable system.
- Prepare and review client invoices, confirm backup documentation, and resolve billing discrepancies.
- Assist with monthly reconciliations, month-end reporting, year-end requirements, and special accounting projects.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $70,000 to $85,000 per year.
- Job type: Temp-to-hire.
- Location: Cypress, CA.
- Support semi-monthly timesheet and expense processing in an automated system.
- Assist with semi-monthly payroll processing, including Excel uploads and accuracy reviews.
- Manage billing and accounts receivable tasks, including invoice review, backup documentation, and discrepancy resolution.
- Support reconciliations, month-end reporting, year-end reporting, and special accounting projects.
- 3 to 5 years of accounting experience, with progressive experience in timesheet processing, expense reporting, payroll, billing, or accounts receivable.
- Experience with automated timekeeping, payroll, or accounting systems such as Replicon, PAYCOM, ADP, SAGE, MAS90, Deltek, SAP, or similar platforms.
- Strong Excel skills, including preparing and reviewing upload files.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and general office technology.
- Ability to review detailed financial information for accuracy, completeness, and proper approvals.
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
- Valid California driver’s license.
- Prior office experience in a professional business environment.
- Comfortable using internet applications and conducting online research for projects.
- Ability to multi-task, take initiative, meet deadlines, and complete work with a high level of accuracy.
- Professional demeanor with the ability to take direction, work independently, and collaborate effectively with internal staff and clients.
- Strong interpersonal skills, follow-up skills, and discretion when handling confidential information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in real estate, property management, professional services, legal services, or a similar office-based industry.
- Experience supporting client billing for project-based work.
- Familiarity with public project coordination, property-related documentation, or client service environments.
