A government organization in the Pauma Valley, CA area is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant for a temporary full-time assignment. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with strong accounts payable experience, solid general ledger knowledge, and the ability to support reconciliations and month-end close activities with accuracy and reliability. The Staff Accountant will support a mission-focused public sector finance team during a coverage period, helping maintain timely vendor payments, clean financial records, and accurate reporting. Key Responsibilities
- Process full-cycle accounts payable transactions, including invoice review, coding, approvals, and payment support.
- Perform account reconciliations, research variances, and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries and general ledger review.
- Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with applicable government accounting standards.
- Assist with audit preparation, documentation requests, and financial record organization.
- Provide general accounting support to the finance team as needed during the temporary assignment.
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay rate: $38 to $39 per hour, depending on experience.
- Assignment type: Contract/temporary.
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday.
- Location: Pauma Valley, CA
- 3 to 5 years of accounting experience, including experience as a Staff Accountant or in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of accounts payable processes and invoice workflow.
- Solid understanding of general accounting principles, including general ledger, reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with pivot tables and VLOOKUP preferred.
- Experience using accounting systems, preferably Sage Intacct.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and follow-through.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage priorities with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting month-end close processes.
- Familiarity with fund accounting or government accounting practices.
- Prior accounting experience in a government, public sector, or regulated environment.
