Job Summary

A Staff Accountant opportunity is available in Fontana, CA for a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys owning the details, improving processes, and supporting accurate financial reporting in a fast-moving operating environment. This contract/temporary role is ideal for someone with strong general ledger experience, practical Excel skills, and the ability to work independently through reconciliations, month-end close activities, and accounting issue resolution.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare and post journal entries while supporting an accurate and timely month-end close process.
- Own general ledger, bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations, including research and resolution of discrepancies.
- Support inventory accounting, cost analysis, and variance review in a distribution or operating environment.
- Maintain schedules for fixed assets, prepaids, accruals, and other assigned accounts.
- Use Excel and ERP system data to improve reporting, analyze activity, and reduce manual processes.
- Assist with sales tax support, audits, special projects, documentation, process improvements, and internal controls.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Support month-end close through journal entries, reconciliations, account analysis, and schedule maintenance.
- Research and resolve accounting discrepancies with strong ownership and clear communication.
- Analyze inventory, cost, and operational accounting data to support accurate financial reporting.
- Improve recurring accounting processes through documentation, Excel analysis, and practical internal controls.

- 3 or more years of hands-on accounting experience, or an equivalent record of progressively responsible accounting work.
- Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close.
- Advanced practical Excel skills, including organizing, validating, and analyzing large data sets.
- Experience working in an ERP or integrated accounting system, with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, organization, and dependable follow-through.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, communicate clearly, and complete work with limited supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with inventory accounting, cost analysis, manufacturing, distribution, or a related operating environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Experience supporting audits, sales tax, internal controls, or accounting process improvement projects.
- Track record of making recurring accounting work more efficient, better documented, and less dependent on manual effort.
