Job Summary
A growing local company in the Kansas City metro area is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its accounting team on a temp-to-hire basis. This is a strong opportunity for an accounting professional who wants broader exposure across the full accounting function rather than being limited to one narrow specialty.
The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Controller and support general ledger accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and backup support for AP, AR, and payroll. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys ownership, problem-solving, and contributing ideas in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare journal entries, maintain the general ledger, and support accurate financial records.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close activities, including account reconciliations and variance resolution.
- Support monthly financial reporting and assist in preparing financial statements.
- Help with budgeting, forecasting, audit preparation, and process improvement initiatives.
- Provide backup support for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll as needed.
- Partner with the Controller and accounting team to identify efficiencies and strengthen accounting processes.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $68,000 to $70,000 per year.

Required Qualifications and Skills
- Prepare journal entries and maintain general ledger activity.
- Support month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, audit preparation, and accounting process improvements.
- Provide backup support across AP, AR, and payroll functions.
- 2+ years of accounting experience in a business environment.
- Experience with month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, financial reporting, or general ledger accounting.
- Strong Excel skills, including formulas, Pivot Tables, and data analysis.
- Experience using ERP or accounting software such as Dynamics GP, NetSuite, Sage, QuickBooks Enterprise, SAP, Oracle, or a similar system.
- Ability to solve problems, take ownership of work, and follow through on deadlines.
- Collaborative communication style with a willingness to support multiple areas of accounting.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years of accounting experience.
- Prior experience in a small to mid-sized business environment where responsibilities span multiple accounting functions.
- Exposure to payroll, accounts payable, or accounts receivable support.
- Experience identifying process improvements or helping streamline accounting workflows.
- Interest in growing into broader accounting responsibilities over time.
