Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant for a direct hire opportunity in Chesapeake, VA. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys detailed research, accurate reconciliations, and supporting a smooth month-end close process within a high-volume, fast-paced corporate environment.
The Staff Accountant will support financial control activities, general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, variance analysis, and audit preparation. This position offers a hybrid schedule with one remote day per week and the opportunity to work closely with cross-functional teams while building depth in corporate accounting and financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform monthly financial statement reviews to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper support.
- Prepare and complete monthly general ledger reconciliations for balance sheet accounts.
- Assist with month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and variance analysis.
- Maintain organized, well-documented workpapers to support reconciliations, reporting, and audit requests.
- Research discrepancies and work cross-functionally to resolve accounting issues in a timely manner.
- Support annual audit preparation by compiling schedules, documentation, and related financial information.
Compensation and Benefits
- Direct hire opportunity.
- Salary range: $70,000 to $75,000 annually, depending on experience.
- Location: Chesapeake, VA.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Hybrid work arrangement: 1 remote day per week.

Required Qualifications and Skills
- Support monthly financial close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Review financial statements and balance sheet accounts for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare audit support schedules and maintain well-organized accounting documentation.
- Assist with process improvements to strengthen accounting efficiency and accuracy.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- 3 to 5 years of accounting experience preferred.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and spreadsheet analysis.
- Experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced accounting environment.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively with internal teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Corporate accounting experience in a metals, minerals, manufacturing, distribution, or related industry.
- Experience supporting annual audits and preparing audit documentation.
- Familiarity with process improvement initiatives within an accounting or finance department.
