We are seeking a skilled C&I (Commercial & Industrial) and CRE (Commercial Real Estate) Underwriter to assess and evaluate credit risk for a diverse portfolio of commercial loans.
YOU MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH C&I AND CRE UNDERWRITING EXPERIENCE.
This role involves analyzing financial statements, assessing collateral, and preparing credit recommendations while ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong financial analysis skills, experience in underwriting commercial loans, and a keen understanding of market trends in both C&I and CRE lending.
Key Responsibilities:
Loan Underwriting & Credit Analysis
• Evaluate and underwrite C&I and CRE loan requests, ensuring alignment with the bank’s risk appetite and credit policies.
• Analyze financial statements, tax returns, cash flow projections, and business models to assess borrower creditworthiness.
• Review collateral, market conditions, guarantor strength, and repayment capacity for both new and existing loan relationships.
• Conduct detailed industry and market research to support risk assessment.
Loan Structuring & Risk Assessment:
• Recommend appropriate loan structures based on financial analysis and risk assessment.
• Identify potential risks and mitigants, providing well-supported credit decisions.
• Ensure loans meet regulatory and compliance requirements, including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and Know Your Customer (KYC) guidelines.
Credit Presentation & Documentation:
• Prepare comprehensive credit memos outlining key financial metrics, risk factors, and recommendations.
• Present underwriting findings and recommendations to credit committees and senior leadership.
• Collaborate with relationship managers, portfolio managers, and senior credit officers to support loan origination and portfolio management.
Portfolio Management & Risk Monitoring:
• Monitor the performance of existing loans, identifying early warning signs of deterioration.
• Work with Relationship Managers (RMs) to review borrower performance and recommend risk management strategies as needed.
• Participate in periodic loan reviews, audits, and risk assessments to ensure portfolio quality.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field.
• 6+ years of experience in commercial loan underwriting, with a focus on C&I and/or CRE lending.
• Strong knowledge of financial statement analysis, credit risk assessment, and loan structuring.
• Familiarity with loan documentation, regulatory requirements, and risk management best practices.
• Proficiency in financial modeling and risk assessment tools.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present credit decisions clearly and concisely.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving abilities.
