Federal Construction Project in Los Angeles
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) to lead and enforce safety compliance on federal construction projects. This role is critical to ensuring all site activities align with EM 385-1-1 and OSHA 29 CFR 1926 standards.
The SSHO will work closely with the Corporate Safety Officer and project leadership to implement robust safety programs, drive a culture of safety, and maintain strict compliance across all job site operations. This position requires a strong on-site presence and hands-on leadership approach.
Key Responsibilities
Lead implementation and enforcement of safety programs in compliance with EM 385-1-1 and OSHA standards
Develop, manage, and maintain Accident Prevention Plans (APP) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHA)
Conduct routine site inspections, audits, and hazard assessments; implement corrective actions
Deliver safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing training for all personnel
Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses; prepare reports and recommend improvements
Coordinate with subcontractors and third parties to ensure full compliance with safety standards
Oversee emergency response procedures and coordinate with emergency personnel when needed
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal safety regulations and industry best practices
Prepare daily safety reports, documentation, and photo logs
Utilize Procore and other construction management systems for inspections, reporting, and submittals
Collaborate with project teams to improve safety policies and procedures
Ensure compliance with company policies, insurance requirements, and regulatory standards
Required Qualifications
Minimum 5+ years of experience as an SSHO on federal construction projects
Direct experience with agencies such as USACE, VA, NAVFAC, National Park Service, or BLM
Strong working knowledge of EM 385-1-1 and OSHA 29 CFR 1926
Proven ability to develop and lead safety training programs
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Procore
Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification
Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle
Preferred Qualifications
Degree or certification in Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
Current EM 385-1-1 Certification
Experience with USACE RMS and NAVFAC eCMS systems
Additional federal or construction safety certifications
