Overview
A high-precision aerospace machine shop located in the Murrieta/Temecula, CA, area is seeking an experienced and detail-driven CNC Production Planner & Purchaser. This dual-role position is the critical link between Sales, Engineering, Purchasing, and the Shop Floor. The successful candidate will oversee production planning, material procurement, scheduling, and inventory management to ensure on-time delivery of high-quality aerospace components. Strong understanding of CNC machining and AS9100 requirements is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Scheduling
Develop, implement, and maintain a detailed master production schedule across all CNC machining operations (milling, turning, inspection).
Manage the full lifecycle of work orders—from release to final inspection and shipment—ensuring efficient workflow and machine utilization.
Work with the General Manager and Shop Foreman to forecast capacity, identify bottlenecks, and allocate resources effectively.
Adjust the production schedule dynamically in response to machine downtime, material shortages, engineering changes, or urgent customer needs.
Purchasing & Procurement
Serve as the primary buyer for raw materials, including aluminum, titanium, stainless steels, and high-value aerospace alloys.
Issue purchase orders for materials, tools, consumables, and subcontracted processes such as heat treating, NDT, anodizing, and plating.
Evaluate supplier performance and maintain strong vendor relationships to ensure competitive pricing and reliable delivery.
Expedite purchase orders when necessary to resolve material shortages or support urgent production commitments.
Ensure all purchased materials meet specification requirements and are accompanied by proper certifications and documentation required under AS9100.
Material & Inventory Management
Maintain optimal inventory levels to support the production schedule while minimizing excess stock and carrying costs.
Coordinate incoming material inspection, verification of certs, and proper storage with full material traceability.
Manage outside processing steps, including tracking parts sent out and ensuring their timely return to support the schedule.
System Management & Data Integrity
Utilize the ERP/MRP system for work order creation, BOM and routing accuracy, material tracking, and production reporting.
Preferred experience with ProShop ERP/MES for job travelers, purchasing workflows, and monitoring real-time production status.
Generate and interpret production and purchasing metrics—OTD, material availability, cycle times, and machine utilization—and support continuous improvement activities.
Cross-Functional Coordination
Act as the primary scheduling and purchasing liaison for Sales, Engineering, Quality Assurance, Outside Processing, and Shop Floor personnel.
Communicate schedule risks, material delays, and potential conflicts proactively to internal and external stakeholders.
Support engineering with long-lead material planning and procurement for new jobs and prototypes.
Qualifications
Required
Minimum 5 years of experience as a Production Planner, Scheduler, and Buyer in a manufacturing environment.
Strong background in CNC machining operations and job-shop / make-to-order workflows.
Hands-on experience purchasing raw materials and subcontracted services in an aerospace or precision machining environment.
Proven ERP/MRP system experience in capacity planning, work order management
