Position Summary

Our client is currently seeking a Tax Senior II to join their growing tax team in San Diego. This role is ideal for an experienced tax professional who demonstrates strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and the ability to build and maintain client relationships. Tax Senior II will play a critical role in supervising staff, managing tax engagements, and beginning to develop a book of businesses.

Qualifications

Active CPA license required.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Master’s degree with an accounting or tax specialization.
4–8 years of relevant public accounting experience.
Strong understanding of federal tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor staff accountants.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Senior Tax II must demonstrate a complete command of relevant Internal Revenue Code (IRC) sections and regulations, serve as a resource to the tax team by identifying and will communicate new tax pronouncements and developments, as well as exhibit advanced tax research skills, including full knowledge of firm-approved research tools and reference sources.

In this role you will ensure accuracy, quality, and timeliness of tax deliverables across various engagement types.

The Senior Tax II position is primarily assigned to tax engagements, including individual, partnership, corporate, estate, and trust returns, will supervise all aspects of tax return preparation and related tax engagements for assigned client groups and begin managing a defined book of business, fostering long-term client relationships and loyalty.

In this role you will be required to communicate effectively with clients to identify needs, provide guidance, and deliver value-added services.

As the Senior Tax II you will supervise, review, and mentor staff accountants and seniors, possess the technical knowledge necessary to oversee staff work and ensure compliance with firm standards as well as identify staff training needs and assist in initiating in-house and external training sessions.

Understand and support the firm’s policies and procedures, including the rationale behind them as well as demonstrate the overall ability, judgment, and professionalism required to operate effectively at the Tax Senior II level, as determined at the discretion of firm partners.
