Position Overview
The Senior Staff Accountant supports the firm’s day-to-day financial operations while contributing to accurate reporting, internal controls, and scalable processes. This role works closely with the Director of Finance and cross-functional teams to ensure financial integrity and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & General Ledger
Assist with monthly and year-end financial statements, reporting, and analysis
Prepare and post journal entries and maintain general ledger accuracy
Perform account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
Maintain and update the Chart of Accounts
Support budgeting and ad hoc financial analysis
Accounts Payable & Cash Management
Process accounts payable entries and coordinate vendor payments
Review, print, and release check payments
Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial accounts
Fixed Assets & Trust Accounting
Maintain and reconcile fixed asset subledger, including depreciation and disposals
Support fixed asset tax reporting and compliance
Reconcile and ensure compliance for trust/IOLTA accounts
Tax & Compliance
Coordinate state and local tax filings (sales & use, business license, property taxes)
Monitor tax deadlines and maintain compliance calendars
Support external tax advisors during annual return preparation
Lead the unclaimed property (escheatment) process
Process Improvement & Controls
Assist in developing and strengthening internal controls
Review and enhance SOPs and workflows for automation and efficiency
Identify opportunities to leverage technology and AI tools to improve reporting and compliance
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
Master’s degree preferred
5–7 years of progressive accounting experience
Experience in a mid-to-large professional services environment preferred (law firm experience a plus, but not required)
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, depreciation, and amortization
Experience with tax reporting and trust accounting preferred
Proficiency in accounting systems (experience with Aderant a plus)
Advanced Excel skills required (VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, pivot tables, data analysis)
Comfortable adopting new technology and automation tools
