Job Title: Construction Project Accountant

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Construction Project Accountant to join our finance team. This role is crucial for supporting our construction projects, managing financial transactions, and ensuring accurate reporting. The ideal candidate will blend strong accounting skills with an understanding of project management in the construction industry, contributing to cost-effective decision-making and overall project success.

Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
-Experience: 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry.
-Proficient in Sage 300 technology; Oracle products, Procore software, or similar construction ERP platforms-Onsite (M-F)

Key Responsibilities:

Project Financial Management:

Oversee the budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting for construction projects.

Monitor project expenditures and compare them with budget estimates, identifying discrepancies and proposing corrective measures.

Collaborate with project managers to track financial progress and ensure adherence to financial plans.

Cost Control and Analysis:

Analyze costs associated with labor, materials, and subcontracted work, ensuring that expenditures align with the project’s financial objectives.

Implement cost control measures and provide detailed analysis to support project reviews and audits.

Prepare variance reports and financial insights to help management understand the financial impact of project decisions.

Billing and Invoicing:

Coordinate with project teams to prepare accurate billing schedules and ensure timely submission of invoices to clients.

Process payments and resolve discrepancies between project records and invoice data.

Manage contract milestones and ensure that all billing aligns with agreed terms and conditions.

Financial Reporting and Compliance:

Prepare periodic financial statements, project summaries, and reports for stakeholders.

Maintain records in accordance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

Assist with internal and external audits, providing documentation and explanations as required.

Collaboration and Communication:

Work closely with project managers, procurement, and subcontractors to ensure consistent and accurate financial communication.

Provide financial advice and insights during project planning and execution stages.

Support cross-department efforts to improve financial processes and reporting tools.

5-10 years of accounting experience, ideally with exposure to the construction or project-based industries.

Strong proficiency in construction accounting software and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems is a plus.

Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex financial information in an understandable manner.

A proactive approach to identifying issues and implementing improvements in financial processes.

Preferred Competencies:

Previous experience working in a construction or engineering environment.

Solid understanding of project management principles.

Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and adapt to changing project requirements.

Strong organizational skill
