Senior Payroll Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Specialist to manage full-cycle, in-house payroll operations for a growing construction services company with multi-state and union employees. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, this role ensures timely and accurate payroll processing while maintaining strict compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Independently process full-cycle, multi-state payrolls on time and with high accuracy
Handle new hires, terminations, rate changes, garnishments, and benefit deductions
Prepare and file timely payroll tax payments (daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly)
Maintain accurate payroll records, reports, and employee files
Support union reporting and certified payroll requirements
Assist with payroll audits by gathering documentation and running reports
Provide training and day-to-day guidance to junior payroll team members (2–3 direct reports)
Serve as a go-to resource for payroll-related questions while escalating complex issues to the Payroll Manager
Identify process improvements and proactively minimize errors in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications:

5+ years of in-house, full-cycle payroll processing experience
Construction industry experience is highly preferred
Union payroll and certified payroll experience is a strong plus
Solid knowledge of payroll tax filing and compliance (experience preferred; training available for the right candidate)
Proficiency with payroll systems and software (Spectrum experience is a plus)
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities
Excellent communication and leadership abilities
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field preferred
CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification is a plus

What We Offer:

Competitive salary of $85,000 – $95,000
401(k) with 3% company match
3 weeks vacation + 5 days sick time
Performance bonus eligibility after one full calendar year
Business professional dress code
Primarily onsite schedule (Monday–Friday) with limited remote flexibility only when absolutely necessary
