Position Overview

The Senior Estimator will lead estimating efforts for large-scale heavy civil and industrial projects, including roads, highways, bridges, tunnels, municipal infrastructure, and industrial site development. This role is central to the preconstruction strategy, responsible for producing accurate, competitive bids while identifying risk, opportunity, and value throughout the estimating life cycle.

Key Responsibilities

Lead preparation of detailed cost estimates and bid proposals for heavy civil and industrial construction projects

Analyze plans, specifications, reports, and contract documents to determine scope and quantities

Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, paving, concrete, structures, and underground systems

Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier pricing

Develop estimates across conceptual, hard bid, and GMP delivery methods

Identify project risks, constructibility concerns, and value-engineering opportunities

Participate in pre-bid meetings, scope reviews, and owner/agency discussions

Support bid strategy development, pricing reviews, and final bid submissions

Collaborate with operations teams to ensure smooth hand off from estimating to construction

Mentor junior estimators and contribute to continuous improvement of estimating standards and databases

Qualifications

8+ years of estimating experience with a General Contractor in heavy civil and/or industrial construction

Proven experience estimating projects such as roads, highways, bridges, tunnels, utilities, municipal infrastructure, or large industrial sites

Strong understanding of construction means, methods, and production rates for heavy civil work

Experience with DOT, municipal, and public works bidding processes

Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar)

Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment

DFW market experience strongly preferred

Preferred Experience

TxDOT or local municipality projects

Design-build and alternative delivery methods

Large earthwork, underground utilities, and structural concrete scopes

Leadership or mentorship experience within an estimating team
