A growing government organization in North San Diego is seeking a highly skilled Senior Accounts Payable Specialist to join its Finance Department.
This is a full-time, temp-to-hire opportunity offering long-term growth potential, including the possibility of advancing into a Staff Accountant role as the department continues to expand.
$30-$33/hr DOE
Key Responsibilities:
Process high-volume accounts payable transactions with a strong emphasis on accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with government accounting standards.
Review, code, and post invoices, ensuring proper allocation to general ledger accounts, cost centers, and grants as applicable.
Prepare and post journal entries and assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
Maintain a strong working knowledge of debits and credits, general ledger structure, and how financial statements are generated.
Reconcile AP subledger to the general ledger and research discrepancies as needed.
Assist in preparing financial reports and supporting documentation for audits and internal reviews.
Collaborate with internal departments, vendors, and management to resolve invoice discrepancies and payment issues.
Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and applicable government regulations.
Support continuous process improvements within the accounts payable function.
Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Proven experience as a Senior Accounts Payable Specialist or in a similar accounting role, preferably within a government or public-sector environment.
Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, journal entries, and financial statements.
Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and take direction with confidence.
Career-driven mindset with interest in long-term growth and advancement.
High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Experience with Sage Intacct, MIP, NetSuite, or similar ERP systems is highly preferred.
