Senior Accountant

Position Summary:
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to join their finance team, specializing in the agriculture sector. This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions in compliance with U.S. GAAP. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of agricultural operations, cost accounting, and financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Manage general ledger activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals.
Oversee inventory accounting and cost of goods sold (COGS) specific to agricultural production cycles.
Collaborate with operations teams to track and analyze crop yields, input costs, and seasonal variances.
Ensure compliance with internal controls and assist with audits (internal and external).
Support budgeting and forecasting processes with insights into ag-specific financial drivers.
Monitor and report on capital expenditures, land improvements, and equipment depreciation.
Research and implement new accounting standards relevant to the ag industry.
Mentor junior accounting staff and support cross-functional financial projects.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the agriculture industry.
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting standards.
Experience with ag-specific ERP systems (e.g., Famous, AgManager, Agvance, or similar) is a plus.
Proficiency in Excel and financial modeling.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Attributes:
Familiarity with commodity pricing, crop insurance, and USDA reporting.
Experience in multi-entity or vertically integrated ag operations.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
