Job Description: Purchasing Manager
Purpose of Job
The Buyer oversees purchasing operations for the manufacturing facility and front offices. This role manages inventory, purchasing activities, planning, forecasting, and receiving to meet production demands. It requires continuous evaluation of priorities based on production needs.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
Purchasing & Vendor Management
Strategy & Coordination: Coordinate with manufacturing and engineering departments to acquire inventory cost-effectively and on time. Monitor cost, schedule, and scope of vendors to ensure high quality and maximum ROI.
• Negotiation: Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with suppliers to obtain the best value.
• Ordering: Review Purchase Order Requirement Generation (PORG), release proper Purchase Orders (POs), and process stock POs for all departments.
• Vendor Relations: Build strong relationships and establish replenishment methods. Identify potential new vendors, evaluate current suppliers weekly, and manage the "Approved Vendor List."
Inventory Control & Planning
• Inventory Levels: Review inventory levels to maintain budgeted levels and corporate inventory turns. Maintain planning parameters including Safety Stocks, Multiples, and Planning Periods.
• Counts & Audits: Manage product cycle counts and lead year-end inventory counts in conjunction with Accounting.
• Issue Resolution: Identify and resolve short-term customer-driven shortages, communicating these to the Sales Organization. Handle returns, credits, and resolve PO discrepancies or delivery problems.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Experience: 4+ years of experience in manufacturing purchasing.
• Systems: Experience with the NAV system is preferred.
Skills:
• Strong written and verbal communication skills (internal and external).
• Excellent time management and ability to coordinate multiple concurrent projects.
• Attention to detail, accountability, and organizational skills.
• Strong negotiation skills regarding pricing and terms.
• Solid understanding of Inventory Control and Cycle Counts.
