We are seeking a skilled Property Accountant to join our team and grow into an Assistant Controller role. This is a unique opportunity to be a key player in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Position Overview
As a Property Accountant, you will provide hands-on accounting support across our property management and construction divisions. You’ll step in as backup to the Controller when needed, manage payables, and contribute to HR-related tasks. This role is ideal for someone with strong property accounting experience who enjoys a variety of responsibilities and is ready to grow with us.
Key Responsibilities
Property Management Accounting
Review and analyze property-level financial reports
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting packages
Perform bank reconciliations and manage cash flow
Record tenant billing, payments, and recurring charges
Manage CAM reconciliations and assist with budget preparation
Maintain accurate data for properties, owners, tenants, and vendors
Construction & Facilities Accounting Support
Process accounts payable for construction-related expenses and vendors
Support job costing and construction cost tracking
Manage a current volume of ~140 locations and ~1,000 invoices per month (transitioning to ~40-50 properties and ~600 invoices/month)
Leadership & Cross-Functional Support
Serve as primary backup to the Controller during absences
Collaborate with asset managers, internal teams, and external accounting staff
Assist with HR functions such as onboarding, payroll coordination, and benefits tracking
Participate in special projects and process improvements
Qualifications
5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in property management and/or real estate development
Construction accounting experience is highly desirable
Proficiency with Sage 300 is required; experience with Yardi is a plus
Strong understanding of GAAP, financial statements, and variance analysis
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; detail-oriented and highly organized
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
Excellent communication skills and a proactive, solution-focused attitude
