Job Summary

A commercial construction company in the Irvine and Costa Mesa, CA area is seeking a Project Accountant for a direct hire opportunity. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with construction industry experience, especially someone who has worked with general contractors and understands the documentation, compliance, and billing requirements that support active construction projects.

The Project Accountant will play a key role in keeping project financials accurate, organized, and compliant. This is a strong opportunity for someone who enjoys working closely with project managers, accounting teams, subcontractors, and vendors in a collaborative, fast-paced construction environment. The right candidate will bring strong Excel skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage both accounting and document control responsibilities with accuracy and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

- Support project accounting functions for commercial construction projects, including billing, compliance tracking, and documentation.
- Prepare and manage AIA percent complete billings and related project billing documentation.
- Track preliminary notices, releases, certified payroll, insurance documents, OCIP/CCIP requirements, and labor compliance items.
- Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal accounting teams to maintain accurate project records.
- Monitor and organize project documentation to support payment processing, compliance, and reporting requirements.
- Use Excel and construction accounting or project management systems to track financial and compliance data.

Compensation and Benefits

- Salary range: $75,000 to $85,000 per year.
- Job type: Direct hire.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Manage construction project accounting activities, including billing, documentation, and compliance tracking.
- Prepare and track AIA percent complete billings and related project financial documentation.
- Collect, review, and track certified payroll, insurance documents, releases, preliminary notices, and labor compliance records.
- Support project teams with accurate accounting records and document control processes.

- 3 to 5 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Experience in construction accounting, preferably with a general contractor.
- Knowledge of preliminary notices, releases, certified payroll, insurance documentation, OCIP/CCIP, and labor compliance.
- Experience with AIA percent complete billings.
- Advanced or fluent Excel skills.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and deadline management.
- Ability to communicate professionally with internal teams, subcontractors, vendors, and project stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience using Sage, Textura, GC Pay, or Autodesk software.
- Commercial construction accounting experience.
- Background supporting both accounting and document control functions in a project-based environment.
