Job Summary
A growing construction-focused organization is seeking an experienced Project Accountant for a contract/temporary opportunity in Redmond, WA. This role is ideal for a construction accounting professional who enjoys owning project-level financials, partnering closely with project managers, and ensuring accurate job cost reporting across commercial and residential construction projects.
The Project Accountant will play a high-impact role in supporting the financial health of active construction projects through accurate cost tracking, AIA billing, subcontractor compliance, change order management, and timely reporting. This opportunity offers exposure to multiple projects at different stages of construction, a collaborative team environment, and the chance to work with supportive leadership that values accuracy, accountability, and proactive communication.

Key Responsibilities
- Track, analyze, and reconcile project costs, including labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment, and change orders.
- Prepare AIA billing, progress billings, pay applications, retention billing, and supporting documentation.
- Generate weekly and monthly job cost reports, WIP updates, forecasts, and variance analysis for project managers and leadership.
- Review subcontractor invoices, lien waivers, insurance certificates, contract terms, and payment documentation for compliance.
- Support month-end close activities, including accruals, reconciliations, project financial reviews, and reporting.
- Partner with project managers, superintendents, field teams, and finance leadership to ensure accurate project financial data and timely communication.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary Range: $75,000 to $95,000 per year.
- Job Type: Contract/Temporary.
- Location: Redmond, WA.
- Work Environment: Hybrid mix of office-based work and occasional on-site project coordination depending on organizational needs.

Required Qualifications and Skills
- Manage project-level accounting for commercial and residential construction projects.
- Support AIA billing, progress billings, job cost reporting, WIP schedules, and budget tracking.
- Track project costs, change orders, subcontractor compliance, and month-end financial activity.
- Partner with project management and field operations teams to provide accurate financial insight.
- 6 to 10 years of project accounting experience specifically within commercial and residential construction.
- Strong knowledge of job cost accounting, WIP schedules, AIA billing, retention, change orders, and construction financial workflows.
- Experience supporting multiple active projects at various stages of construction.
- Proficiency with construction accounting software or ERP systems.
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and communicate findings clearly.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in high-volume, deadline-driven environments.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with project managers, superintendents, field teams, and finance stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing deadlines, and troubleshoot discrepancies quickly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with both ground-up construction and tenant improvement projects.
- Familiarity with prevailing wage requirements, retention billing, and multi-phase project accounting.
- Experience supporting audits, financial reviews, or project compliance documentation.
- Background working in a professional construction accounting environment with multiple active projects and shifting priorities.
