We are seeking a detail-oriented Construction Project Accountant to join a growing team in a temp-to-hire capacity. This role is a replacement for a current contractor and offers the opportunity to gain hands-on training in Schedule of Values (SOV) billing, while working in a fast-paced, project-driven environment. Full-time, Monday-Friday, $75k-$80k DOE, Located in San Marcos, CA
What You’ll Do:
-Manage accounting functions for construction projects including job costing, budgeting, and financial reporting
-Review and reconcile invoices, purchase orders, subcontractor payments, and change orders
-Prepare project cost reports, forecasts, and variance analysis
-Monitor budgets and track expenditures to identify cost overruns or savings opportunities
-Collaborate with project managers, procurement, and finance teams on cost allocation and revenue recognition
-Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and construction regulations
-Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
-Support audits by providing documentation and financial analysis
-Maintain and improve accounting processes and controls specific to construction projects
What We’re Looking For:
-Accounting experience within construction or project-based environments
-Experience with or exposure to certified payroll, prevailing wages, labor compliance, and lien releases (preferred)
-Proficiency in accounting software such as Sage, LCPTracker, Procore, and strong Excel skills
-Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
-Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
