Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Procurement Manager (Protein) for a direct hire opportunity in Monrovia, CA within the food and beverage production industry. This role is ideal for a procurement and supply chain professional with strong experience purchasing raw proteins, ingredients, packaging materials, and operational supplies in a manufacturing environment.

The Procurement Manager (Protein) will play a critical role in maintaining uninterrupted production, controlling material costs, improving supplier performance, and supporting operational growth. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with senior leadership, production, operations, quality, finance, and customer-facing teams in a collaborative environment focused on quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and manage procurement activities for raw proteins, ingredients, packaging materials, and operational supplies to support uninterrupted food manufacturing operations.
- Create and execute sourcing strategies that improve supply security, reduce costs, strengthen supplier performance, and support business growth.
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, payment terms, rebates, and supplier agreements while maintaining quality, service, delivery, and food safety standards.
- Monitor protein commodity markets, packaging trends, supplier conditions, inventory levels, and demand forecasts to support purchasing decisions and supply continuity.
- Collaborate with Operations, Production, Quality Assurance, Sales, Customer Service, and Finance to align procurement with production schedules, customer demand, budgets, and inventory goals.
- Maintain purchasing records, supplier files, pricing agreements, cost analyses, specifications, and ERP/MRP data to support accurate procurement planning and reporting.

- Salary range: $100,000 to $125,000 per year.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Manage procurement planning for raw proteins, ingredients, packaging, and operational supplies in a manufacturing environment.
- Lead supplier negotiations, sourcing strategies, cost reduction initiatives, and vendor performance management.
- Support demand forecasting, production scheduling, inventory optimization, and supply continuity planning.
- Partner cross-functionally with operations, quality, finance, sales, and customer service teams to support business and production goals.

- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Accounting, Operations Management, or a related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive procurement, purchasing, or supply chain experience, preferably in food manufacturing, meat processing, proteins, prepared foods, or packaging.
- Experience purchasing raw proteins, food ingredients, packaging materials, and operational supplies in a manufacturing setting.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to analyze material costs, purchase price variances, inventory valuation, margins, and cost reduction opportunities.
- Experience using Canopy ERP or comparable ERP/MRP systems for demand forecasting, inventory planning, purchasing decisions, and inventory optimization.
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems, QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong negotiation, communication, analytical, problem-solving, and supplier relationship management skills.
- Experience evaluating supplier performance using KPIs, scorecards, and performance metrics.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects, meet deadlines, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Professional, ethical, detail-oriented, and collaborative approach with a commitment to confidentiality, teamwork, customer service, and continuous improvement.
- Regular, timely attendance required.

Preferred Qualifications

- Knowledge of protein commodity markets, agricultural supply chains, or food ingredient sourcing.
- Working knowledge of USDA regulations, GMPs, HACCP, SQF, or other food safety and quality systems.
- Experience developing alternate suppliers, contingency plans, supplier consolidation strategies, and supply chain risk reduction initiatives.
- Experience supporting new product development or customer programs through ingredient, packaging, and material sourcing.
