Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Plumbing Engineer / Designer to support design-build and design-assist projects during preconstruction and early design phases. This role is ideal for a professional who thinks like an engineer first and understands how design decisions directly impact cost, labor, and constructability.
This is not a traditional estimating role. Estimating responsibilities are supportive in nature and tied directly to engineering and system design decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Design plumbing systems for commercial projects in a design-build environment
Produce design-assist and design-build documents, including:
System layouts
Risers
Details
System narratives
Ensure designs meet applicable plumbing codes, constructability standards, and coordination requirements
Collaborate closely with preconstruction, estimating, project management, and field teams
Support estimating efforts, including:
Quantity takeoffs
Scope development
ROM pricing
Design-build budgeting
Participate in value engineering (VE) and cost optimization discussions
Evaluate how design decisions affect labor, materials, schedule, and installation
Assist with coordination using AutoCAD and Revit (BIM experience is a plus)
Required Qualifications
Background as a Plumbing Engineer or Plumbing Designer
Strong understanding of plumbing system design, California codes, and constructability
Experience working in a design-build environment (required)
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit
Ability to support estimating activities using industry estimating software
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Detail-oriented with a practical, solution-driven mindset
Preferred Qualifications
BIM coordination experience
Experience supporting preconstruction or design-assist phases
Familiarity with VE strategies and cost-driven design decisions
Commercial or industrial project experience
