Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Technician for a contract opportunity in Sunnyvale, CA. This role supports biweekly payroll processing in a structured, professional payroll environment where accuracy, confidentiality, and service are essential.

The Payroll Technician will work under the supervision of the Payroll Supervisor and provide technical payroll and accounting support for payroll preparation, processing, reconciliation, reporting, and issue resolution. This is a strong opportunity for a resourceful payroll professional who enjoys working with complex payroll data, following established procedures, and contributing to a collaborative team.

This position is well suited for someone who values stability, supportive leadership, clear direction, and meaningful work that supports employees and organizational operations. Candidates with public agency payroll experience or Oracle payroll exposure are strongly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform technical accounting duties related to biweekly payroll preparation and processing.
- Process wage garnishments, levies, tax payments, and manual payroll checks in compliance with applicable regulations.
- Verify accounting entries, reconcile complex payroll records, and resolve payroll transaction exceptions.
- Maintain confidential payroll data, payroll records, and filing systems using computerized payroll and database systems.
- Respond to payroll inquiries and assist with researching and resolving payroll-related issues.
- Prepare special payroll reports, spreadsheets, and documentation to support payroll operations and compliance.

Compensation and Benefits

- Pay Rate: $40.00 to $50.00 per hour.
- Job Type: Contract/Temporary.

- Support biweekly payroll processing, reconciliation, and payroll data verification.
- Process garnishments, levies, manual checks, tax payments, and payroll exceptions.
- Maintain confidential payroll records and generate payroll reports and spreadsheets.
- Assist employees and internal teams with payroll inquiries and issue resolution.

- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- One or more years of technical financial support experience required for Payroll Technician I level.
- Two or more years of technical financial support experience, including payroll experience, required for Payroll Technician II level.
- Strong understanding of payroll processes, payroll regulations, and confidential data handling.
- Proficiency with business software, computerized payroll systems, spreadsheets, and database management.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to verify entries, reconcile records, and identify discrepancies.
- Excellent communication, organization, follow-through, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, follow directions, and contribute effectively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

- College-level coursework in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
- Associate's degree preferred.
- Experience working in a public agency or government payroll environment.
- Experience with Oracle for in-house payroll is highly preferred, but not required.
