Job Summary
A leading organization in Decatur, IL is seeking a Payroll Specialist for a temp-to-hire opportunity within its Corporate Payroll team. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting or payroll professional who enjoys accuracy, compliance, problem solving, and providing excellent internal customer service.
The Payroll Specialist will support payroll processing for a diverse workforce, including U.S. and Canadian payroll operations. This is a strong opportunity to gain hands-on experience with complex payroll functions, tax documentation, reconciliations, payroll records, and process improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
- Process U.S. and Canadian payroll accurately and within required deadlines.
- Research, troubleshoot, and resolve payroll discrepancies, processing issues, and employee payroll inquiries.
- Complete payroll reconciliations, maintain payroll records, and ensure secure handling of confidential employee payroll data.
- Prepare and process payroll tax documentation, including Forms 941, W2, T4, and other required filings.
- Communicate professionally with management, employees, and cross-functional departments regarding payroll matters.
- Document payroll procedures, support process improvements, and serve as backup for non-exempt payroll processing.
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay: $20.00 per hour.

Required Qualifications and Skills
- Process payroll accurately and maintain compliance with company policies and payroll regulations.
- Resolve payroll discrepancies and provide professional support to employees and management.
- Maintain payroll records, reconciliations, tax documentation, and confidential employee data.
- Support payroll workflow documentation, backup processing, and process improvement projects.
- Minimum of 3 years of office, accounting, payroll, or related experience.
- Understanding of accounting and mathematical concepts.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Sound judgment and ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Payroll experience strongly preferred.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience with payroll systems and database management is a plus.
- Experience supporting multi-state, U.S., or Canadian payroll processes is helpful.
