Launch your career with AppleOne! We are hiring for a Payroll Specialist. The Payroll Specialist is responsible for accurately processing payroll, maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and supporting internal teams with payroll-related inquiries. This role ensures employees are paid accurately and on time, while maintaining confidential and organized payroll records. Located in North San Diego County. $26-30hr DOE. Mon-Fri.
Key Responsibilities:
• Process bi-weekly or semi-monthly payroll for hourly and salaried employees
• Ensure payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely, including new hires, terminations, raises, bonuses, and deductions
• Maintain employee payroll records in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements
• Review and verify timesheets, PTO requests, and attendance records
• Respond to employee questions regarding pay, deductions, and taxes
• Prepare and distribute payroll reports to Finance and HR departments
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws
• Coordinate with HR and Accounting for benefits deductions, garnishments, and tax filings
• Assist with year-end processing, including W-2s and related reporting
• Maintain confidentiality and data integrity at all times
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred
• 2–4 years of experience in payroll processing or related role
• Experience with payroll systems such as ADP, Paychex, UKG, or similar
• Strong knowledge of wage and hour laws, payroll tax regulations, and compliance standards
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other office tools
• High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and discretion
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
