Position Summary
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Clerk to support payroll operations in their Decatur, IL location. This position will be responsible for accurately processing payroll, maintaining employee records, resolving payroll-related questions, and ensuring payroll deadlines are met. The ideal candidate will have strong data entry skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to provide professional customer service while handling confidential payroll information. This role will interact with employees, drivers, and management to assist with payroll inquiries and ensure accurate compensation processing.
Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly and monthly payroll accurately and within required deadlines.
- Review payroll information and identify discrepancies.
- Research and resolve payroll-related issues and employee questions.
- Process irregular payments, adjustments, and fuel-related charges.
- Support freight billing and payroll-related administrative tasks.
- Close trips for outside locations as needed.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation.
- Provide payroll support to hourly employees, including union and non-union employees.
- Communicate effectively with employees and management regarding payroll matters.
- Perform data entry, recordkeeping, and general administrative duties.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of general office, accounting, or related administrative experience required.
- Previous payroll experience preferred.
- Strong data entry, keyboarding, and 10-key skills.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and mathematical calculations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information professionally.
- Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Successful completion of a background check required.
- Ability to work Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM CST.
