Salary: Based on Experience

We’re partnering with a growing construction company to hire an Accountant – Payroll with hands-on experience in construction payroll and job costing. This role is responsible for ensuring payroll, labor burden, and workers’ compensation costs are accurately reflected in job cost reports, WIP schedules, and financial statements in accordance with GAAP.

Key Responsibilities
Payroll Processing & Compliance
Process weekly payroll for salaried employees
Calculate regular/overtime labor, prevailing wage and certified payroll (as applicable), per diem, travel, bonuses, and fringe benefits
Manage payroll taxes, deductions, garnishments, and regulatory compliance
Track and allocate company vehicle usage and chargebacks

Job Costing & Accounting
Allocate payroll and labor burden costs to jobs, phases, cost codes, and departments
Prepare and post payroll journal entries, accruals, and reclasses
Reconcile payroll registers to the general ledger, job cost subledgers, and liability accounts
Resolve payroll coding or allocation discrepancies

Workers’ Compensation
Maintain workers’ comp records by job, cost code, labor class, and state
Prepare reports, audits, and payroll true-ups
Accrue and record premiums accurately and support annual audits

Month-End Close & Reporting
Ensure payroll and labor costs are recorded in the proper period
Support month-end close, audits, and internal controls
Provide payroll and labor cost data to Accounting, Operations, and Management

HR & Employee Data (Payroll-Focused)
Maintain payroll-related employee data (pay rates, labor classes, job assignments)
Support onboarding and offboarding from a payroll/accounting perspective
Partner with HR and Operations on project staffing alignment

Qualifications
Required
3+ years of payroll accounting experience in a construction or job-costing environment
Strong knowledge of construction job costing, labor burden, payroll accruals, and workers’ compensation
Experience posting payroll costs to the general ledger and job cost systems
Familiarity with construction accounting software (Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, Procore, HH2, or similar)
Excellent attention to detail and reconciliation skills

Preferred
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Experience with prevailing wage, certified payroll, and multi-state payroll
Workers’ compensation audits and WIP reporting
