Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Payments Operations Officer for a direct hire opportunity in Los Altos, CA. This full-time, exempt role is ideal for a banking operations professional with strong experience in deposit operations, ACH, wire transfers, check processing, and payment compliance.

The Payments Operations Officer will manage day-to-day deposit and payment processing activities while helping improve operational efficiency, accuracy, compliance, and risk mitigation. This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of critical banking operations in a stable, professional environment with supportive leadership, strong teamwork, and a focus on continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

- Oversee processing and maintenance of deposit accounts, including checking, savings, time deposits, and business and consumer deposit products.
- Manage payment operations for domestic and international wires, ACH RDFI and ODFI activity, check processing, and debit or credit card transactions.
- Ensure payment activity complies with NACHA rules, Fedwire regulations, settlement deadlines, and applicable banking standards.
- Monitor daily payment volumes and support timely, accurate processing of critical transactions.
- Oversee dispute resolution activity, including ACH returns, wire recall requests, check disputes, and debit or credit card chargebacks.
- Partner with risk management, compliance, and treasury teams to support secure operations, process improvement, and risk mitigation.

Compensation and Benefits

- Salary range: $85,000 to $95,000 per year.
- Job type: Direct hire, full-time, exempt.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Manage day-to-day deposit operations and payment processing workflows.
- Oversee ACH, wire transfer, check processing, and card transaction activity.
- Support regulatory compliance, payment deadlines, and operational risk controls.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce risk.

- 6 to 10 years of relevant experience in banking operations, deposit operations, payments operations, or a related financial services environment.
- Strong knowledge of ACH processing, including RDFI and ODFI activity.
- Familiarity with NACHA rules, Fedwire regulations, wire transfer procedures, check processing, and payment settlement requirements.
- Experience handling payment disputes, returns, recalls, chargebacks, and related exception processing.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, follow-through, and accountability.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with compliance, risk management, treasury, and operations teams.
- Self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage critical daily processing deadlines.
- Bachelors Degree Preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in a bank, credit union, or consumer lending environment.
- Prior experience improving operational workflows, controls, or payment processing procedures.
- Strong understanding of deposit products for both consumer and business banking customers.
- Experience supporting audits, regulatory reviews, or internal control testing related to deposit and payment operations.
