Compensation: $54,000–$64,000 starting salary, depending on experience
Overview
We are seeking a results-driven Outside Sales Representative with experience in the steel industry or a related industrial sector. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining strong customer relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and providing technical expertise on steel products. The ideal candidate has a proven sales background, excellent communication skills, and a track record of meeting or exceeding revenue goals.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and maintain relationships with existing and prospective customers in construction, manufacturing, and other steel-related industries.
• Identify new business opportunities through networking, cold calling, and referrals.
• Provide technical product knowledge and recommendations based on customer needs.
• Negotiate pricing and contracts to close sales and achieve revenue targets.
• Collaborate with internal teams—including purchasing, logistics, and customer service—to ensure timely order fulfillment.
• Stay informed on market trends, competitor activity, and industry developments.
• Prepare and deliver sales presentations, proposals, and reports.
• Maintain accurate records of sales activities and customer interactions.
• Attend trade shows, networking events, and company meetings as required.
• Quote material and processing as requested by customers.
• Perform spot buys to fulfill orders as needed.
• Receive material into the system from vendors.
• Process cash sales when necessary.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
• Minimum of 2 years of sales experience, preferably in steel, metals, or industrial products.
• Strong understanding of steel products, grades, and applications.
• Demonstrated success in achieving or exceeding sales targets.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
• Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and capable of working independently.
• Ability to travel within the assigned territory.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Sales, or a related field.
• Experience with structural steel, stainless steel, aluminum, or specialty metals.
• Existing network of industry contacts.
