A mission-driven non-profit organization in Downtown Los Angeles is seeking a Staff Accountant / Internal Auditor to join its finance team on a contract-to-hire basis. The Staff Accountant / Internal Auditor will support financial reporting, compliance, reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, budget analysis, and annual audit preparation. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate monthly and annual financial reports in accordance with established deadlines.
- Perform general ledger accounting activities, including journal entries, allocations, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including invoice processing, payment support, and check runs.
- Conduct budget reviews, assist with budget development and revisions, and provide financial analysis to program managers.
- Support annual audit preparation by gathering documentation, preparing schedules, and assisting with audit-related requests.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners while identifying opportunities to improve accounting processes, efficiency, and accuracy.
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay Rate: $34.00 to $43.00 per hour, depending on experience.
- Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire.
- Location: Downtown Los Angeles, CA, Skid Row area.
- Schedule Options:
- 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM.
- 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
- 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

Required Qualifications and Skills
- Prepare financial reports, journal entries, reconciliations, allocations, and audit schedules.
- Support annual audit preparation and compliance activities in a non-profit accounting environment.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoice processing, and check run support.
- Partner with program managers and finance leadership on budget reviews, analysis, and process improvements.
- Minimum 3 years of accounting and audit experience.
- Experience supporting annual audits in a non-profit environment is required.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and non-profit accounting practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with internal teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be comfortable working in the Downtown Los Angeles Skid Row area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Non-profit accounting experience is highly preferred.
- Sage Intacct experience is preferred.
- Experience working directly with Controllers, auditors, program managers, and external partners is a plus.
- Prior contract-to-hire or fast-paced finance team experience is helpful.
