Our client is a precision manufacturer specializing in custom metal optics and advanced surface finishes used in demanding, high-performance environments. Our work includes electroformed and CNC-machined components, specialty platings, and vacuum-deposited coatings for customers in aerospace, defense, medical technology, semiconductor, UV, industrial lighting, and other technical markets.

Position Overview
The Metal Optics Polisher is responsible for producing high-quality surface finishes on metal optical parts. This includes polishing, lapping, grinding, and preparing components to meet strict optical and dimensional requirements. The role directly supports production for advanced technology industries and requires a strong commitment to accuracy, consistency, and quality standards.
Primary Responsibilities
Follow established procedures, work instructions, and production documentation
Polish metal optical components such as reflectors, mirrors, and tooling
Perform surface preparation using grinding, lapping, and polishing techniques
Set up, operate, and maintain polishing equipment including laps and buffing tools
Inspect parts using visual checks and precision instruments (micrometers, profilometers, interferometers, etc.)
Verify that surface finish, flatness, reflectivity, and other optical criteria meet specifications
Interpret engineering drawings, process specs, and technical documentation
Maintain a clean, organized work area to avoid contamination
Record measurements, process steps, and inspection results accurately
Identify surface defects and perform rework when necessary
Follow all safety guidelines and handle materials/chemicals properly
Qualifications & Experience
Education
High school diploma or GED required
Technical or vocational training is a plus
Experience
5+ years in optical polishing, machining, precision manufacturing, or a related field preferred
Technical Skills
Understanding of metals such as aluminum, nickel, stainless steel, chrome, and specialty alloys
Experience with precision measurement tools and surface inspection methods
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
Familiarity with optical surface standards (scratch/dig, RMS roughness, P-V, surface accuracy, etc.) preferred
Experience with CNC or automated polishing systems is beneficial
Knowledge of surface prep for coatings or plating is a plus
Exposure to ISO or AS9100 environments preferred

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
Work performed in a manufacturing or cleanroom environment
Exposure to polishing compounds, coolants, and industrial equipment
PPE required as appropriate
Ability to stand for long periods
Ability to lift 25–50 lbs occasionally
Good vision (corrective lenses acceptable) for detailed inspection work
