About the Role
The HIM Clerk Level I supports the Health Information Management team by organizing, scanning, and accurately entering medical record information into the Electronic Health Record (EHR). This role is ideal for someone detail-oriented who is comfortable working with medical documents, systems, and basic patient inquiries.
What You’ll Do
Enter and update key medical record information into the EHR
Index and electronically file medical documents
Organize and prepare loose documents for a third-party records vendor
Ensure documents are filed under the correct provider and location in the EHR
Assist patients with basic medical record questions
Help with other HIM tasks as needed
What We’re Looking For
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent
Either:
Enrolled in an Associate Health Information Technology program OR
1+ year of experience in a medical office (medical records experience preferred)
Knowledge
HIPAA and patient privacy
Medical terminology
Medical record document types
Electronic Health Records (EHR)
Skills & Abilities
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Comfortable navigating EHR and medical systems
Able to work independently and follow filing guidelines
Good communication skills (written and verbal)
Proficient with Microsoft Office and Adobe
Organized with good time-management skills
Physical & Work Requirements
Able to sit for long periods and perform repetitive computer work
Occasionally lift up to 20 lbs
Frequent use of hands, keyboard, and computer screens
Must pass pre-employment drug screening
Drug-free, smoke-free workplace (smoking allowed only in designated outdoor areas)
