Mechanical Engineer needed for innovative company in Santa Clarita
Development of new products and the improvement of existing products from concept to engineering release. Collaboration with marketing and sales teams and outside customers to define the requirements of new products and translate them into working engineering specifications. Provide technical support to the sales team for quotation submittals and software modeling. Recommend appropriate technical solutions based on customer needs. Support manufacturing operations with equipment, process, and product improvements.
• Responsible for mechanical design, analysis, and testing of new products and modifications to existing products.
• Research, design, evaluate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes to meet requirements, applying a knowledge of engineering principles.
• Develop top level and subsystem concepts through design and analysis.
• Analyze designs for strength, reliability, and other mechanical aspects.
• Test designs and create test reports.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
• Produce engineering documents including part and assembly drawings, installation drawings, engineering work instructions, engineering specifications, and user manuals.
• Lead and document DFMEAs and coordinate follow up work activities.
• Interpret customers’ technical needs and recommend appropriate products to customers based on application requirements.
• Interpret technical specifications, layouts, plan, and elevation views, to extract data for system configurations and performance modeling.
• Apply custom selection modeling software to provide solutions based on customer requirements.
• Assist sales team in preparing and submitting quotations for products based upon customer technical specifications.
• Analyze and solve technical problems and provide solutions that can be implemented in a timely manner.
• Analyze field failures and resolve technical issues involving products.
• Provide technical support to customers on product installations to ensure field installations conform to appropriate product application.
• Develop protocols and procedures to conduct design validation and reliability testing of finished products and components.
• Develop knowledge of products and how they are applied.
• Conduct all activities in compliance with ISO requirements.
• Serve a key role in helping to manage customer issues and participate as part of the quality problem resolution team.
• Ensure internal and external customer satisfaction.
• Travel, occasionally, both domestically and internationally.
• Work in an empowering environment and support the concepts of self-direction and continuous improvement.
PREREQUISITE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EDUCATION:
• BS in Mechanical Engineering (MS preferred).
• Minimum 5 years of engineering work experience.
• Experience designing multi-component assemblies, including custom and off-the-shelf components.
• Experience designing sheet metal, machined, and molded parts.
• Competence with 3D solid modeling software such as SolidWorks.
• Experience testing under static and dynamic stress and thermal environments.
• Experience with strength and thermal modeling of parts and assemblies is preferred.
