In this role, you’ll oversee the daily operations of manufacturing mechanics, ensuring efficient repair, maintenance, and modification of production and support equipment across all operating lines.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and coordinate night shift maintenance operations, ensuring all production and packaging equipment run efficiently and safely throughout the shift. (fillers, cappers, labelers, conveyors, and mixers)
Assign and prioritize maintenance work orders, balancing preventive maintenance, reactive repairs, and production support tasks to minimize downtime and maintain output goals.
Oversee and verify completion of preventive maintenance (PM) on equipment such as pumps, motors, blending tanks, and high-speed packaging machinery; document findings and corrective actions in maintenance logs or CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
Inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, identifying root causes of failures and implementing timely repairs to restore operation.
Perform and direct changeovers, set-ups, and calibrations of filling, capping, and labeling machines; ensure accuracy in weight adjustments and product specifications during transitions between SKUs or production runs.
Coach, train, and mentor maintenance mechanics, apprentices, and production operators on proper machine operation, minor adjustments, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and best practices for preventive care.
Track and review equipment performance metrics, focusing on reducing unplanned downtime, improving changeover efficiency, and optimizing PM effectiveness.
Communicate clearly with incoming and outgoing shift leaders, providing detailed updates on maintenance status, open issues, and equipment conditions to support seamless transitions.
Ensure safety, compliance, and cleanliness in all maintenance areas, upholding 5S standards and company environmental, health, and safety (EHS) policies.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Mechanical Design Engineering Technology or related field preferred.
Minimum 2 years of Manufacturing Mechanic experience required.
Strong knowledge of maintenance and production equipment.
Skilled in using a multi-meter and performing mechanical troubleshooting.
Ability to read and sketch mechanical drawings accurately.
Familiarity with programmable controllers (PLCs) preferred.
Solid math and analytical skills.
Proven ability to lead, train, and motivate a team.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Prior supervisory or team leadership experience a plus.
