Machinist
Location: Shreveport, Louisiana
Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Work may include fabricating, modifying, or repairing mechanical components, machine tools, or industrial equipment using knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Calculate dimensions and tolerances using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
Machine parts to specifications using manual and/or CNC equipment, including lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders.
Set up, adjust, and operate machine tools for precision machining operations.
Measure and inspect completed parts to ensure conformance to specifications.
Select tooling, cutting speeds, feed rates, and depths of cut based on material and machining requirements.
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and job orders to determine machining methods and sequences.
Lay out, measure, and mark material for machining operations.
Establish workpiece zero reference points.
Diagnose machine issues and perform basic adjustments as needed.
Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Vocational training or job-related coursework preferred.
Previous machining experience preferred.
Manual machinist experience (manual lathes and mills) is a plus.
Knowledge of machining tools, materials, and shop mathematics.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Maintains confidentiality and demonstrates strong work ethic, reliability, and integrity.
Physical & Work Requirements:
Ability to read, speak, and write English.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and climb stairs.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment.
Minimum of 40 hours per week, depending on workload.
